Our Motto
_The mission of Team 159 (Alpine Robotics) is to demonstrate and discover the feats of science and technology in our world. We are a student led team that aspires to be successful in all aspects of the FIRST Robotics Competition. Our team, being the oldest in the state of Colorado, has much experience with FIRST. Throughout our history we have spread FIRST's message. In fact, we have won the Colorado Regional Chairman's award an impressive four years! However, this team is not just about winning awards. We try to get everyone on our team involved. Even though we are a large team, we try to make sure even the new and inexperienced team members are able to participate. With these ideals, we hope to be a prime example of FIRST's values.
Team 159
Alpine Robotics Team 159 is about as diverse a group of students as you will ever find. From computer nerds and debaters to music geeks and athletes, this rag tag bunch of students probably shares about one thing in common; a passion for building robots. Every spring we gather together for a six week work-fest of brainstorming and bot-building that culminates in the FIRST Robotics regional and national competitions. These competitions bring together thousands of high school students to pit their skills against teams from all over the world. The atmosphere of these competitions is like a huge sporting event and every year the objective of the game changes.
However, there’s more to the competitions than just battling bots. There is the competition for the prestigious Chairman’s Award which honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST. There are awards for animation, website design, enthusiasm and spirit and many more. In short, there is a place on the team for everyone and skills of all kinds are needed.
Over the years, our robots have lifted boxes, shot balls and even done chin-ups from a ten foot high bar! Our team has won awards of all types, but no matter what the challenge we’re faced with, you can be sure that Alpine Robotics Team 159 will find an interesting solution and have an awesome good time in the process.
It is this synthesis of intense focus and bodacious fun that radiates from everything that the team does. It’s a rare moment that you’ll find our build meetings void of music and laughter. The energy-level is intense but when stress runs too high, the hectic pace is put on hold for a quick game, a curling competition, or especially, a round of the teams’ favorite sport--ultimate Frisbee!
Our team is open to any Poudre School District high school student and no prior experience is necessary. In fact it is rare that new students on our team have ever designed or built anything. So, what’s stopping you? Come be a part of Alpine Robotics!
